So a while ago I got banned from facebook for posting some pictures that I probably shouldn’t have (Exhibit A and Exhibit B). Since I know that they don’t actually delete profiles (they just disable them and keep all your information and pictures on file), I thought it might be worth seeing if I could get my pics back, seeing as I don’t have a lot of them backed up.

It wasn’t. This is how the conversation went:

Me to Facebook

Any chance I could get access to my account for an hour or so so I can backup my old photos?

Hi,

In order to receive support, you must reply to this email to verify that you are the owner of the Facebook account that you referenced in your inquiry. This security step must be completed before Facebook can respond to your inquiry.

In addition, note that Facebook will only be able to provide assistance if you are writing in from the email address that you used to log in to your Facebook profile that’s disabled. If your disabled profile was registered under a different email address, then you will need to respond directly from that email address. To do this, take the following steps:

? Copy the exact email address you see in the “From” field of this email (ending in @support.facebook.com).
? Log in to the email account under which your disabled Facebook profile was registered.
? Compose a new email. Paste the address you copied (ending in @support.facebook.com) into the “To” field, let us know you’re responding from your disabled email address in the body, and click “Send.”

Once we have this information, we will take further steps to assist you. Remember that writing in multiple times will not result in a faster response. Once you submit your initial request, it is placed in a queue and responded to accordingly.

Lastly, you may not create another account using a different email address while you are waiting for a response. Creating more than one Facebook account is a violation of our Statement of Rights and Responsibilities, and violations of this rule could result in all of your accounts being permanently disabled.

Thanks,
The Facebook Team

Hi Mark,

Your account was disabled because you violated Facebook’s Statement of Rights and Responsibilities. Prohibited behavior includes, but is not limited to:

? Creating or uploading content that is pornographic, sexually suggestive, or contains nudity
? Harassing other people with sexually explicit language
? Sending unsolicited friend requests or Inbox messages to people you don’t know

You will no longer be able to use Facebook. This decision is final and cannot be appealed.

Please note that for technical and security reasons, we will not provide you with any further details about this decision.

Facebook to me

Hi Mark,

When a Facebook account is disabled, the profile and all information associated with it are immediately made inaccessible to other Facebook users. Facebook does not use information associated with disabled accounts which means that none of this information will be visible on the site.

Unfortunately, for safety and security reasons, we cannot delete from our servers information associated with disabled accounts. We also cannot grant you access to a disabled account to retrieve content, nor can we provide you with any content that was associated with this account. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. This decision is final and cannot be appealed.

Thanks for your understanding,

Me to Facebook

So what you’re saying is that you have the pictures, but are not willing to give them to me? Surely if they are on the server, you could just save the pictures and email them to me, meaning that I don’t need access to the account.

Again… I am not interested in having the account back – I just want to keep the pictures, as I have no other backup.

May I also ask exactly why you need to keep pictures of me on your servers “for safety and security reasons”?

So the jist of it is… Facebook are keeping my pictures, Facebook will not give me access to backup my pictures, and Facebook will not delete my pictures.

My conclusion is this:

Facebook, you are a bunch of faggots. This decision is final and cannot be appealed.

Okay, as a few people know, my phone was stolen a few weeks ago when I was in London. Not long after, I emailed O2 to let them know what had happened – O2 then put a restriction on my phone and sim to stop it being used – not that I thought for a minute that a thief would be stupid enough to use the phone to call their friends or anything. I was wrong.

My new sim card arrived this morning, and had no credit whatsoever on it – it had around £10 when I lost it, so another email to O2 was in order… maybe they temporarily removed the credit to stop anybody else using it as part of their ‘restrictions’. No. My phone went missing out of my pocket on 3rd April, and 10 calls were made on 4th April.

However, O2 have been nice enough to provide me with the 3 numbers that were called the day after it was stolen. I know I was drunk, but I highly doubt I would have phoned 2 random mobiles that I didn’t know, and somebody in Algeria. Since I now have this information – anybody got any suggestions of what I should do with it?

The options I can see are:

Phone the numbers, shout at people, tell them how much of a cunt their friend is. This will cost me more money, and probably not make me feel a great deal better.

Phone the police and tell them what I know, although it’s unlikely they will bother doing anything about one stolen phone… they are the police, after all. The Metropolitan police, at that.

SMS bomb the numbers involved, informing them that their friend is an arsehole.

Anybody else got any ideas?

Good evening Mark

Thanks for emailing us to know if you can upgrade your 2g SIM card to a
3g SIM card.

I’ll be happy to help you.

Firstly, I’d like to apologise for the earlier email sent by me. That
response was not meant for you and it was sent to you by mistake.

Mark, yes definitely you can upgrade your SIM from a 2g SIM card to a 3g
SIM card. I can go ahead and order a new 3g replacement SIM card for
you. For me to do this, please reply to my email with the following
details:

- alternate contact number
- complete address including postcode.

Once I get the above information I’ll be happy to order a replacement
SIM card fro you. This replacement SIM card will have the same number
and any credited on your old SIM card will also be transferred n this
new SIM card.

In continuation to your email, you mentioned that you needed the MMS
settings for your HTC S710.

Mark, the HTC S710 is not supported on the Pay & Go portfolio. However
you need not worry as I’ve mentioned below the generic Pay & Go settings
as follows:

1) Internet Settings:

Homepage: http://wap.o2.co.uk/
APN address: payandgo.o2.co.uk
Gateway (IP) address: 193.113.200.195
Username: payandgo
Password: password
Session type: Continuous or permanent
Authentication: Normal
Security: Off
Port number: 9201.

2) Picture messaging settings:

Data Bearer: GPRS
Access Point Node (APN): payandgo.o2.co.uk
User ID: payandgo
Password: password
Authentication: Normal
Gateway: 193.113.200.195
MMS Message Server: http://mmsc.mms.02.co.uk:8002
Session Mode: Permanent.

Once you enter the settings to your phone, please switch off and switch
on your phone for the settings to take effect. Also as these settings
are generic, I won’t guarantee whether they’ll work. If they don’t work,
you’ll need to contact the phone manufacturer and they’ll help further.

I hope these were the queries that you needed answers to and that now
it has been answered. However, if this is not the query then, please
reply to my email with the exact nature of your query and I’ll be happy
to help you.

I hope this answers your query about getting the Internet settings for
your phone.

Seeing as it was fairly helpful, and someone had actually taken the time to read (some of) my email, I was quite pleased. I still want that credit back, though, so:

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly and addressing most of my query, my contact details are as follows:

Alternate number: 079********

Address:
HUA HUA HUA HUA

However, you have still not addressed the first part of my email – I am still at a loss as to why I am down £5.38 credit when there is no way on Gods green earth that I used that much in calls. The O2 website clearly stated that with a £10 topup I would receive “300 UK texts and unlimted web”. Despite the fact that GPRS wasn’t supposed to be in use at all, and I was supposed to be on wifi (I will put that down to my phone being useless), I should still not have been charged for any GPRS data transferred anyway!

Thanks again for your assistance, as this is the first non-scripted email I have had back in 4 months.

Regards,

Mark

Skip to this morning, and I had this gem sat in my inbox:

Good morning Mark

Thanks for replying to Josvel’s email with the necessary details. As he
isn’t here personally to reply to your email, I’ll be glad to assist
you.

Mark, you’ll be happy to know I’ve ordered a replacement 3G SIM card for
you. This will be sent to you in the post and you’ll receive it within
five working days to the address given in your email.

When you receive your new SIM card, your mobile number, services and
credit will already have been transferred for you. You’ll just need to
make a chargeable outgoing call to activate it.

Also, I’ve checked your account carefully and can see that you’re
charged for sending text messages, making calls and accessing Internet.

You’ve been charged 90p for calls, 20p for text messages and £4.52 for
Internet. However, I’m pleased to tell you that I’ve credited £5.62 to
your account as onetime goodwill gesture.

Your calltime balance is now £10.24. Please make sure that your phone is
not connected to the Internet automatically, as we won’t be able to
refund any amount for the same reason in future.

Just to inform you that your tariff gives you 500 Mb of Internet
browsing. Anything above this you’ll be charged as per the standard
rates.

I hope I’ve explained it clearly to you.

On a separate note Mark, did you know that you can save a copy of your
favourite pictures, videos and texts to your own password protected
account by registering with Bluebook?

You can even back up the contacts list in your phone by saving them on
Bluebook. Please visit the link below for more information on this
fantastic service:

http://bluebook.o2.co.uk/jsps/findoutmore

I hope you’ll find this information useful and have a pleasant day.

Summary:

Charged for “free internet”

Credit refunded as a “goodwill gesture”

“Unlimited web access” is actually only 500mb

Well, wasn’t that jolly nice to return the credit THAT I DIDN’T FUCKING USE.

My follow up email (I only collapse their emails, because mine are much more interesting):

Pushkar,

Thank you for your email, and for ordering a new sim card – it is much appreciated. I also appreciate you replacing the credit that I didn’t actually spend – you truly are a prince among men.

However, I am still a bit confused – You mention that my tariff allows me 500mb free internet browsing before I am charged, yet you managed to charge me £4.52 for it without me using anywhere near 500mb. I would consider that O2 have used the word “unlimited” rather loosely, and suggest a better word to use might have been “none”.

You also mention that should I use the internet again, I will be charged for it – does this mean that I have used my 500mb allocation on nothing? I’m not being given an allocation of 500mb? I don’t quite understand. How much exactly have I used? How much am I charged after that? There doesn’t seem to be a lot of information regarding internet connectivity on the O2 website other than that it is “unlimited”, albeit subject to a fair usage policy.

Thank you for the information on Bluebook. I will make a note in my notebook.

Greetings and salutations,

Mark

Since messages are limited to 1500 characters, and my email went slightly over that (2622 chars) I will just post it here to save the trouble of re-writing it. Maybe if half of my problems had been resolved in the past 2 emails I sent, we wouldn’t have this problem.

Hello,

I did have a long email typed out here, but it was apparently too long for your shoddy website, so I have posted it on mine instead. Please see my blog post at http://www.warmonkey.net/2010/03/14/o2-email/ and contact me at ******@********.co.uk

Please also note that If I receive a pre-written templated response to this, I will be leaving your network, and ensure that nobody I know ever deals with O2 in the future.

Kind regards,

Mark

Perhaps you would rather I sent you a tweet next time, O2?

Dear Mr O2,

I have several issues currently, and would hope that you can resolve at least some of them, otherwise I will be forced to consider switching to a network that isn’t such a complete farce.

Problem #1
I topped my phone up on Thursday… according to your website, where I topped up, I should be entitled to “300 UK texts and unlimted web”. On Friday afternoon I connected via wifi to a wireless network to use the internet. For some godunknown reason, GPRS also chose this opportunity to connect and use the internet. Since I apparently have unlimited web access, I didn’t think this was much of a problem, and used the internet for around an hour.

Upon disconnecting, I was surprised to find that rather than the £9-something credit that I had prior to going online, I now had around £0.70 credit remaining. This figure has since fluctuated between there and around £7, finally settling on £4.62 – which, considering I didn’t make any chargeable calls or send any picture messages rather annoyed me.

Could you please give me a reason my credit has been deducted, and resolve this issue ASAP, as if you can’t manage to manage my credit properly, I will be forced to find someone who can. This also goes for my O2 debit card.

Problem #2
I emailed around 3 months ago asking if I could have a replacement sim card, since the one I currently have is quite old, and 2g. I got a stock email telling me how to upgrade my phone, which, considering the reason I want a new sim card is because I had just bought a new phone, was not very helpful.

I actually have some O2 sims already, if you would rather port my number to one of those, and save you sending me a new one.

I sent you another email last week and got the same joke of an email back. To clarify this: I DO NOT WANT A NEW TELEPHONE, I WANT TO PORT MY NUMBER TO A NEW 3G O2 SIM CARD.

PHONE UPGRADE = NO. NEW SIM CARD = YES.

Problem #3
In the last email I sent, I also asked for GPRS and MMS settings for my phone, as your online ‘service’ to automatically send settings does not work. This request was totally ignored, probably because you just send crappy pre-written emails to people to save time. If anybody is actually reading this email, I would ask that you try to resolve the above detailed problems.

My phone is a HTC S710 running Windows Mobile 6.5. Please either send settings to my phone, or by email so I can set them up myself.

Please note that if I recieve a templated email reply to this, I will be leaving your network forthwith, and avoid any O2 products in the future.

Thank you, and good day.

Mark

First I bought 2gb of DDR2, only to then find out that the board CAN take 4gb of DDR2, but only as a maximum of 1gb sticks (anyone want to buy 2gb DDR2 PC6400/swap for 2 x 1gb DIMMs?).

Then we ordered a new HDD. A new 500gb HDD, a new mouse, and I picked up 100 blank CDs, as is customary when ordering from ebuyer. All well and good, except this time, CityLink have really fucking excelled themselves.

Not only have they not delivered the package when it was supposed to arrive (it is actually 3 days early, though that’s probably down to ebuyer)… they have delivered it to completely the wrong fucking address.

How difficult is it to deliver a package to a house that is on a main road, with the number clearly visible next to the front door? How difficult is that, when your job description is ‘put things in van, drive van, deliver things to right place’. They even have sat nav… all the driver had to do was pick from a group of 4 houses.

Jesus fucking christ. No wonder you’re driving a van around for a living, you dosile twats.
